Sainte Hélène du Lac (Savoie, France), le 01/08/2018
A leading supplier of snowmaking systems for ski areas, the MND Group announces that its subsidiary SUFAG has signed new contracts totalling €9.3 million with ski resorts in France, Japan and China. This will be a busy summer for MND, a French group whose snowmaking technology and solutions for ski resorts have worldwide reach.
The contracts signed for these three countries cover the installation of new solutions and the extension of existing automated, customised snowmaking systems combining energy efficiency with high quality snow.
All works related to these contracts will be completed in autumn 2018.
Accordingly, the contracts will be fully invoiced during the 2018/2019 financial year. €6.0 million was already included in the Group’s €184.2 million order backlog as at 30 June 2018.
MND was chosen this year to supply a number of French ski resorts, including Vars and Les Orres (Hautes-Alpes), Valmeinier (Savoie), Les Grands Montets - Chamonix and Les Carroz (Haute-Savoie) and Saint Jean Monclar (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence).
In China, MND was selected to provide services for several ski resorts, including the extension of the Wanlong resort located at the centre of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics complex.
With Japan experiencing a boom in winter tourism, five ski resorts have put their trust in MND technology and expertise.
In the face of unpredictable weather conditions, changes in winter sport practices, peak holidaymaker periods and the need to control operational costs, the management of snowmaking operations is becoming a major issue for ski areas requiring a global and flexible approach.
These new contracts will strengthen MND’s positioning on a highly buoyant global ski resort development market in which ski area operators are required to invest annually to keep pace with growing customer demand.
The 2016/2017 season posted 400 million skier days worldwide, up 4% from the previous season. According to the latest surveys, 130 million people worldwide go skiing every winter (source: International Report on Snow & Mountain Tourism).
